Objectives & Activities:
At the FOM Scholarship Scheme, we:
1. Help provide rural health professionals for rural hospitals over the long term, thereby improving health care for people living in rural areas.
2. Establish and work to maintain relationships with rural hospitals.
3. Select rural school leavers who have the potential to become rural health care professionals.
4. Provide comprehensive financial support for rural students studying health sciences at university.
5. Provide mentorship, support and life skills training (including HIV/AIDS) to all students supported by the Scholarship Scheme.
6. Ensure that university graduates return to work as health professionals in their rural home hospitals.
7. Support graduates and alumni of the Scholarship Scheme as they become local level health professionals: rural community developers, health activists, leaders, role models and AIDS educators.
8. Establish and work to maintain relationships with funding agencies who will support our work.
9. Research rural health recruitment and retention and use this to inform and improve what we do.
10. Aim to maintain our organisation so that it is able to do its work effectively.
